What is your background and how did you become one of your new Activity Mangers?
I was born in England and grew up in the county of Yorkshire, throughout most of my childhood I would attend dance and stage coach schools as hobbies. After leaving high school I trained as an actor, and studied sociology, literature and media alongside my training. At 19 I secured my first job as a singer with a major holiday brand in the UK.
For over a decade I have been working within the entertainment industry. Mostly as a singer-dancer in musical theatre on-board cruise lines and in UK theatre. During my time working all over the world I learned my craft as an all rounded entertainer, which included hosting and character work.
I went for my interview as activity manager with full confidence and knowing my experience would allow me to excel in the job. Most importantly, I was myself and showed myself as a people’s person, which is something all activity managers should have along with a friendly outgoing personality.
What do I enjoy most about the job?
There are so many other things I love about the job, however I do enjoy the wellness activities we have on-board such as yoga, Pilates and aqua aerobics.I think this extra touch on the passenger’s holiday is a major plus factor. I enjoy everything about my role, it’s always fun to do.
What does your typical day involve?
A typical day for example: Yoga in the morning, then a break for a spot of breakfast. After lunch there would be a bike or a hike to assist- or otherwise in the afternoon hosting a trivia, light sports, or dance class for example.
After a nice afternoon rest, I would then attend port talk to support our cruise director to brief the passengers on what to expect for the following days programme. Guests will then enjoy their evening meal in Reflections Restaurant whist I prepare for the evening entertainment. This would be my cabaret, an interactive gameshow, or a traditional performance from a local. On select evenings, we will finish off with an all dancing disco night.
What can guests expect from the new EmeraldActive program?
Guests can expect so much variety from our EmeraldACTIVE programme. As well as the wellness activities, we have a variety of fun sports games- including golf putting, soft pétanque, Nordic walking and dance classes. In addition, we also have quizzes to keep the brains on top form and a little healthy competition for prizes.
To keep improving the activities we offer, I am currently training in Tai Chi, so that I can also offer this as a special addition to the programme.
On an evening guests will be kept entertained by many different events and activities, no evening is the same, which keeps it all fun, fun, fun!
You will see us on the hikes and biking tours, and around the Star-Ship too for a good chat.
What is your favourite destination and why?
There a so many to choose from, that’s a pretty hard question!
I love the Bavarian state in Germany. There are so many beautiful cities and places to see, it has such culture and elegance, and you can almost feel like you’re in a Disney fairy-tale, it really is a magical place. Other than that I do like Melk in Austria- the scenery is stunning!
Although I think Budapest has truly stolen my heart so far.
